A guitar like the LH-700 doesn’t come along but once in a lifetime. Literally, as the tone and projection of a guitar usually takes years to form; it seems The Loar has found some materials and construction techniques to rapidly increase the process. The LH-700 not only looks like a sexy 1950′s sports car but it has the tone to bring any Jazz guitarist promptly to their knees.

The LH-700 quality control is high, like Diva, high-maintenance high. The guitars have been on hiatus for months because they will only accept pieces that meet their stringent standards for tone. It has been a year since the LH-700 last hit US shores and they are finally here, but only a few pieces have arrived. If you want to purchase one, because as of 5/24/10 we only have two left after filling pre-orders. These wont’ last long and you never know when more may show up. Get yours today at www.InstrumentAlley.com

http://www.instrumentalley.com/The-Loar-LH-700-Deluxe-Hand-Carved-Archtop-Guitar-p/lh-700.htm

The Loar’s new hand carved, nitrocellulose-finished archtop guitar is a product of extensive historic research. The all solid, hand carved bodies are finished with nitrocellulose lacquer to reflect the classic jazz sounds of Golden Age instruments. With the use of traditional building techniques, like the classic parallel bracing, the Loar Hand Carved Archtops are a singular achievement. Their excellent projection and quick decay make them the professional choice for jazz soloing or accompaniment.

The Loar Hand Carved Archtop Guitar is assembled with an AAA solid hand carved spruce top and AAA flamed maple back, sides and neck. The bone nut and compensated adjustable ebony bridge let the sound of the select tonewoods resonate clearly, and the bound ebony fretboard is both beautiful and durable. The archtop is finished with a meticulously inlaid “Flowerpot” headstock design and a hand-buffed nitrocellulose lacquer tobacco sunburst finish to stay true to classic design and style.

The LH-700 will only be built in very limited quantities. It comes standard with the Golden Age-styled Deluxe Vintage Hardshell archtop case.

A great sounding 00-sized alternative. Solid wood construction. Sweet price.
Concerns
None.

Revival RG-26
If you’re looking to get as close as possible to a boutique-grade guitar for minimal cash outlay, it hardly gets better than the RG-26. This small-bodied beauty from Chinese manufacture features all solid woods, a gloss finish, and sweet looking appointments. Running down the list we find neat wooden bindings on the body and neck, inlaid wood back and end stripes, a heel cap and rosewood headstock facing, and a perfectly rendered abalone rosette and fretboard dots. The construction is top notch in all areas, including the inner workings, where we see carefully shaped and sanded scalloped braces, tight joints, and not a stray speck of dust or glue. Playability-wise, the RG-26 rules thanks to its moderately slim neck, which sports a low action and well-shaped frets with smooth ends. The guitar’s intonation is excellent—thanks in part to the properly cut bone nut and compensated bone saddle—and its acoustic voice is crisp and open with good complexity and presence in the upper mids and highs. The RG-26 has what the company calls a “00 thin body shape,” which, though comfortable to get around on, is a limiting factor to both its volume and projection. But while the RG-26 doesn’t have the low-end mass of a dreadnought- or jumbo-sized instrument (which is something that solo performers tend to look for), it is ideally suited for recording. Slap a good mic on this guitar and revel in the pure and balanced tones that come back at you. Built by people who obviously care about attention to detail, the result speaks for itself and the RG-26 gets an Editors’ Pick Award

Revival guitars combine the finest tone woods with fine craftsmanship and tone to produce a sweet sounding and easy playing guitar. Each Revival guitar is born and bred to satisfy even the most discriminating musicians taste.
The Revival RG-26 is a “OO” thin body acoustic guitar with clear tone and quick responsive play. Solid Engleman spruce and solid mahogany provider rich treble and bass with x-pattern bracing. An abalone rosette and Chrome Grover tuning machines round off the Revival RG-26.
